The Project began, with a series of charcoal drawings, during life drawing classes at the Scarborough School of Art in 1968 and continued during 1969 at the York School of Art. This was the first time that I made the connection between God, Science, Discipline, Intentions, Art and me - a small insignificant weak human.
I recall feeling somewhat embarrassed at my work receiving some attention, but I soon connected to the fact that an honest statement with positive, pure intentions, could award its grace and wisdom to the viewer, with positive consequences. Although I was overwhelmed at my ability to produce active art work, the visual result felt right confirming and defining my way forward, directing the project to evolve naturally.
It is with deepest thanks to the fantastic Tutors at the Scarborough School of Art, with true admiration of their skills and understanding, I was able to develop my ideas whilst undergoing complex, sometimes painful personal development.
I pay a particular tribute to the fantastic 'Mal Byrne' and 'Alan Neal' formerly at Scarborough of Art and the brilliant 'Joe O'Neil' formerly at York School of Art.
This is a multi media, evolutionary project, seeking answers to the beginning of life, defining God, the soul and energy, presenting the beginnings pictorially using various media, challenging the classical presentation of God and Jesus Christ, examining the relationship of life to death, positive to negative, good to bad, energy to life, organic-chemical diversity to reincarnation, inner-space to outer-space, science to art, light to the absence of light, and portraying the consequence of every intention, every action. It does not matter if you believe in God or not and you do need any formal education or training to follow or understand my work, you just need to open your eyes and allow your body and it's natural senses to guide you.
The work begins with a plain white primed canvas, this represents the neutral zone before visual/organic creation, a state of unconsciousness, empty void, nothing!... or perhaps Everything!... or both..!
